I'm in the middle of Termination Shock by Neal Stephenson, where in a not-too-distant future someone's doing exactly this type of geoengineering: shooting sulphur into the upper atmosphere.
The crazy thing is, humans have already been doing geoengineering similar to this, and recently discontinued it[1].
