FCIS is the best simple pattern I have come across for keeping a codebase easily understood and testable over several years. You can combine it with other patterns, or even just use it for one small area of an application that is otherwise OOP-d to oblivion. It is the bomb dot com and if it ever comes up in conversation I won't shut up about it. It's not talked about enough!
